Lambert Projection Maps

Lambert projection mapPhilosopher and mathematician Johann Heinrich Lambert was born in Alsace, France, in 1728. Lambert showed that maps could be made with truer shapes by using mathematics.

On a map developed from a Lambert projection, meridians are shown as converging straight lines. Parallels are arcs of circles and are uniformly spaced.

Lambert projection is used for plane coordinate systems for states that have their long axis orientated East – West.
