Methods of locating contours

Grid method – effective in a relatively small area, which also has a fairly uniform slope. Grid pattern is typically 25 feet.

Cross section method – for the preparation of strip maps or design surveys

Tracing contours method – used when exact location of a particular contour line is needed

Controlling points method – shots taken at specific land features
