Contour lines cannot cross or meet, except in the case of cliff overhangs

Contour lines across a ridge form U’s that point down the ridge

Contour lines tend to parallel streams and rivers

Contour lines are uniformly spaced on uniformly sloping ground. Irregularly spaced lines mean rough, rugged ground
